KEY GAME INFORMATION
SACRAMENTO: LAST SEASON: 39-43, finished ninth in Western Conference.
COACH: Luke Walton (first season with Kings, fourth season overall, 98-148).
PROJECTED STARTING FIVE: G De'Aaron Fox (17.3 ppg), G Buddy Hield (20.7), F Harrison Barnes (14.3), F Marvin Bagley III (14.9), C Dewayne Dedmon (10.8).
KEY LOSSES: C Willie Cauley-Stein, F Corey Brewer.
KEY ADDITIONS: Dedmon, F Trevor Ariza, G Cory Joseph, F Richaun Holmes.
PLAYERS TO WATCH: The Kings are building around emerging stars Fox and Bagley. Fox took a major step in his second season to become one of the most complete point guards in the NBA. His speed fuels Sacramento's up-tempo attack and Walton hopes to get improved defense and 3-point shooting this season out of Fox to make him a more complete player. Bagley started only a handful of games as a rookie but took big strides in the second half when he showed the ability to be a top scorer. He increased his scoring average more than five points per game after the All-Star break to 18.5 and the Kings hope be builds on that this season.
OUTLOOK: The Kings extended the longest active playoff drought in the NBA last season when they missed the postseason for the 13th straight season. But they won their most games of any season during that stretch and finished ninth in the conference. The players view getting into the playoffs as a benchmark for a successful season but that will be hard in a deep Western Conference that only got stronger with moves this offseason.
MIAMI: LAST SEASON: 39-43, finished in 10th place in Eastern Conference.
COACH: Erik Spoelstra (12th season, 523-363).
PROJECTED STARTING FIVE: G Justise Winslow (12.6 ppg), G Dion Waiters (12.0), G Jimmy Butler (18.7 with Minnesota and Philadelphia), F Kelly Olynyk (10.0), C Bam Adebayo (8.9).
KEY LOSSES: G Dwyane Wade, G Josh Richardson, C Hassan Whiteside, G Rodney McGruder.
KEY ADDITIONS: Butler, G Tyler Herro, F-C Meyers Leonard.
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Butler gets a team to call his own, and assumes the role of locker-room leader in the place of Wade ' who retired after 16 seasons, most of them with Miami. The Heat are hoping for healthier years from Waiters and PG Goran Dragic, after both missed about half of last season. Herro, the No. 13 pick in this year's draft, had a strong summer league and followed that up with big numbers in the preseason so he'll clearly be in the mix somewhere. Adebayo enters his first full year as the starting center, a job he won down the stretch last season, and will get help from fellow bigs Olynyk and Leonard. Winslow wants to be a leader for the group, but has missed 94 games in the last three seasons.
OUTLOOK: The Heat haven't won a playoff series since 2016 and are only 124-122 over the last three seasons, yet believe they can get back into more of a postseason-contender role ' even without Wade, who was the team's best player last season. Getting Butler was a major boost and he'll unquestionably be the key to everything Miami does, though he won't be asked to carry the load by himself. Defense wasn't the problem for Miami last season after the Heat finished No. 2 in the league in points allowed; the biggest issue was inconsistent offense, which figures to get better.
PREVIEW
Heat happy to return home against Kings

The Miami Heat, who are an NBA-best 18-1 at home this season, will host the Sacramento Kings on Monday night in a game of opposites.

Sacramento has lost four straight games overall, and the Kings are 7-14 on the road.

Miami is coming off a 107-102 loss to the Spurs in San Antonio on Sunday afternoon and will be missing a few weapons in the second game of their back-to-back on Monday.

Rookie Tyler Herro, Miami's first-round pick and a sweet-shooting guard, was limited to eight minutes in the San Antonio game due to a bruised left knee. Starting forward Justise Winslow, who has played in just 11 games this season because of back and concussion issues, is expected to miss at least two more weeks.

Fortunately for the Heat, they have been able to count on shooting guard Jimmy Butler as well as versatile center Bam Adebayo and rookie guard Kendrick Nunn.

Butler, an eight-year veteran, leads the Heat in scoring (20.2 points), assists (6.4) and steals (1.9). He had a lot of praise for Nunn when asked about the rookie last week.

"He just works," Butler said of Nunn, who is averaging 23.3 points over his past four games. "He's constantly working on his game, which is why he will be in this league for a long time."

Adebayo, who had 21 points, a game-high 16 rebounds and a team-high-tying six assists on Sunday, has proved to be a revelation as a first-year, full-time starter in the NBA.

Another key for Miami is reserve point guard Goran Dragic, a former All-Star who is making a case for himself as the league's Sixth Man of the Year. He led all the bench scorers in the Spurs game with 19 points.

Meanwhile, the Kings were off on Sunday after Saturday's 123-101 loss to the Jazz in Utah.

"Sometimes we just don't communicate," said 6-11, 240-pound center Marvin Bagley III, who left Saturday's game after apparently aggravating a left foot injury. "If we keep allowing that to happen, we're going to get beat all game long like we did (at Utah)."

Bagley, the second overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, played 30 minutes on Saturday. He is fifth on the Kings in scoring (14.2 points) and second in rebounds (6.8). His status for Monday was unknown on Sunday.

Another injured King is 6-10, 240-pound power forward Richaun Holmes, who is having a career year. He has started 33 games and is averaging 13.1 points and a team-leading 8.5 rebounds. However, Holmes is out for at least two weeks due to a shoulder injury.

But point guard De'Aaron Fox said he is willing to shoulder the burden for the Kings. In eight games this month, he's averaging 23.8 points, 8.4 assists and 5.4 rebounds.

"It's stuff that I knew I could always do, it's just being more consistent," Fox said recently, per NBC Sports. "Continuing to make shots, get to the basket, get to the free throw line, things of that nature. Just trying to help my team win ball games."
