KEY GAME INFORMATION
SAN ANTONIO: LAST SEASON: 48-34, lost 4-3 to Denver in Western Conference first round.
COACH: Gregg Popovich (24th season, 1245-575).
PROJECTED STARTING FIVE: G Dejounte Murray (missed last season with knee injury), G Bryn Forbes (11.8 ppg), G DeMar DeRozan (21.2), F LaMarcus Aldridge (21.3), C Jakob Poeltl (5.5).
KEY LOSSES: None
KEY ADDITIONS: F DeMarre Carroll, F Trey Lyles, G/F Keldon Johnson, F Luka Samanic
PLAYERS TO WATCH: DeRozan spent most of last season processing a trade that unexpectedly sent him to the Spurs and away from the Toronto Raptors, the franchise he pledged his devotion to ' then watched them win a title. Murray's injury also forced DeRozan to become the team's main distributor for the first time in his career. DeRozan set a career high with 6.2 assists per game but also had his second-lowest scoring average in six seasons. Murray is back and spent the offseason sending video of specific plays to show the 30-year-old guard how he could help him score more easily.
OUTLOOK: The Spurs continue to get younger and faster while trying to maintain their veteran presence and corporate knowledge. The latter received a huge boost with the addition of Hall of Famer Tim Duncan as an assistant coach. Duncan's knowledge of the Spurs' system, work ethic and camaraderie should help the team's development as it attempts to an establish an identity separate from but similar to the Big Three era spearheaded by Duncan that led to five NBA championships. Murray's return along with the return of White, expected emergence of Lonnie Walker IV and addition of Carroll should make the Spurs among the best wing defenses in the league.
OKLAHOMA CITY: LAST SEASON: 49-33, lost 4-1 to Portland in Western Conference first round.
COACH: Billy Donovan (fifth season, 199-129).
PROJECTED STARTING FIVE: G Chris Paul (15.6 ppg with Houston), G Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (10.8 with Los Angeles Clippers), F Danilo Gallinari (19.8 with Clippers), F Andre Roberson (5.0), C Steven Adams (13.9).
KEY LOSSES: G Russell Westbrook, F Paul George, G Jerami Grant, F Markieff Morris, F Patrick Patterson.
KEY ADDITIONS: Paul, Gilgeous-Alexander, Gallinari, Darius Bazley, Justin Patton, Mike Muscala. PLAYERS TO WATCH: Even though the Thunder will be widely expected to struggle this season, the backcourt of Paul and Gilgeous-Alexander ' assuming health ' is certainly good enough to help Oklahoma City contend for a postseason berth. It'll be interesting to see if Paul is energized by the trade, Gilgeous-Alexander is a budding young talent and Gallinari (coming off his best scoring season) is a veteran presence who fits very nicely into today's perimeter-based NBA game.
OUTLOOK: The Thunder went all-in on title-chasing in recent years, and now they're all-in on a reset after trading away Westbrook and George. But this isn't anywhere near a tank; there are plenty of good players on the Thunder roster, and GM Sam Presti has accumulated more than a dozen first-round picks over the next seven years to play with if he's inclined to make a big move. If they can trade Paul, which may still be an option despite the veteran's massive $44 million player option for the 2021-22 season, that would only add more pieces to Presti's plan for an OKC reload.

Because of this information, no power rating or computer score edges are posted for this game.

PREVIEW
Spurs to cap 8-game road trip against Thunder

The San Antonio Spurs' eight-game road trip got off to a rough start.

The Spurs started the trip with a five-game losing streak, but they have picked themselves off the mat with back-to-back victories entering Sunday's finale of the long trip necessitated by a long-standing rodeo.

"It's not over. It's far from over," Spurs wing DeMar DeRozan said after Friday's win at Utah.

The Spurs finally head home after Sunday's game at the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The losing streak had put San Antonio in a difficult spot as it fights for a 23rd consecutive playoff berth.

San Antonio's fortunes started turning around just before the All-Star break when the Spurs hit all eight of their field goals in the final 40.8 seconds to beat the Thunder 114-106 on Feb. 11.

DeRozan missed that game, the second of two he missed with an ankle injury.

"We can't worry about nobody else but us," DeRozan said. "We won tonight and took care of business. If we take care of business the next game, the next game, the next game, when it's all said and done, we'll see what happens."

Sunday's game is the last meeting of the season between the teams. The Spurs have won two of the three games so far.

While DeRozan missed the last meeting, LaMarcus Aldridge came up big. He scored 25 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in the victory over the Thunder.

Aldridge figures to be a big focus of Oklahoma City's defensive game plan Sunday.

"Just to bother him," Thunder center Nerlens Noel said of the defensive goal when facing Aldridge. "There's some exceptional post players in the league, and he's one of them.

"He makes tough shots. But I've got a different mindset than last game."

Dejounte Murray was also a big part of that win over the Thunder, also scoring 25 points with nine rebounds.

Murray is shooting 60 percent from the field and averaging 19.8 points per game over the last four games.

"When you play with freedom, it brings the best out of you because it builds confidence," Murray said.

The Thunder have won two consecutive games, including Friday's win over Denver, and 11 of their last 14.

After this game, Oklahoma City will play 13 of its next 20 on the road.

After injuring his ankle about midway through the third quarter of Friday's game, Thunder reserve point guard Dennis Schroder participated in Saturday's light practice but there wasn't much running involved.

"I think once we do some stuff tomorrow at the arena, we'll have a better idea of where he's at," Oklahoma City coach Billy Donovan said.

While Schroder comes off the bench, he's been a very important piece at the end of tight games in the Thunder's three point-guard lineup with Chris Paul, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Schroder together on the floor at once.

"It wouldn't have worked if those guys didn't have the attitude, mentality they had towards it," Donovan said.
