KEY GAME INFORMATION
LA LAKERS: LAST SEASON: 37-45, finished 10th in Western Conference.
COACH: Frank Vogel (first season with Lakers; ninth season overall, 304-291).
PROJECTED STARTING FIVE: G Rajon Rondo (9.2 ppg), G Danny Green (10.3 with Toronto), F LeBron James (27.4), F Anthony Davis (25.9 with New Orleans), C JaVale McGee (12.0).
KEY LOSSES: F Brandon Ingram, G Lonzo Ball, G Josh Hart, G Lance Stephenson.
KEY ADDITIONS: Davis, Green, C Dwight Howard, G Avery Bradley, F Jared Dudley, G Quinn Cook.
PLAYERS TO WATCH: The evolving chemistry between James and Davis will be at the forefront, but the Lakers' success in creating an immediate title contender could hinge on the supporting cast. Green must keep the outside shooting proficiency he demonstrated last season for Toronto, while Kyle Kuzma must find a role on a reconfigured roster. The Lakers' biggest early-season subplot of all might be around Howard, whose return to LA after six seasons away could be greeted by boos or cheers.
OUTLOOK: An aspiring super team takes shape around James and Davis, who joined forces to do a whole lot more than end the Lakers' franchise-record playoff drought at six years. LA expects to be a title contender with two of the NBA's best players anchoring a lineup featuring perimeter shooting from Green and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, fast-break proficiency from Alex Caruso and Kuzma, and sturdy defense from Bradley, Rondo and McGee. Vogel's ability to fold this talent into a cohesive unit over the next few months will determine whether the Lakers can do something special in the spring.

Because of this important information, no power rating or computer score edges are posted for this game.

ORLANDO: LAST SEASON: 42-40, lost 4-1 in first round to Toronto
COACH: Steve Clifford (second season with Magic; seventh season overall, 238-254).
PROJECTED STARTING FIVE: G Evan Fournier (15.1 ppg), G D.J. Augustin (11.7), F Aaron Gordon (16.0), F Jonathan Isaac (9.6), C Nikola Vucevic (20.8).
KEY LOSSES: None.
KEY ADDITIONS: F Al-Farouq Aminu, G Markelle Fultz (acquired in February from Philadelphia but didn't play).
PLAYERS TO WATCH: There isn't a lot of mystery to the Magic entering this season, since they bring back basically the same team and will be adding a former No. 1 overall pick in Fultz who has worked for months to fix his shoulder and shooting issues. Vucevic is coming off a season where he set career-bests in points, rebounds and assists per game. When Gordon scored big, the Magic were really good; they went 16-8 in the 24 games where Gordon reached the 20-point mark. Terrence Ross is basically a sixth starter for Orlando, needing only 26.5 minutes per game to average 15.1 points last season in an instant-offense role coming off the bench.
OUTLOOK: The Magic improved by 17 wins last season and reached the playoffs for the first time since 2012, doing all that without the burden of expectation. They won't have that same luxury this year, not after bringing back virtually every part of a team that didn't just get into the playoffs but did so by going 22-9 down the stretch of the regular season. Getting to the foul line more would be a major help, after the Magic ranked last in free throws made and free throws attempted last season. The biggest challenge for Clifford may be finding ways for his team to replicate the same get-into-the-playoffs hunger it had a year ago.
PREVIEW
Lakers strive to continue road streak in Orlando

The Los Angeles Lakers' lone loss on the road this season occurred in their own building ... over seven weeks ago.

The Lakers bounced back from that season-opening setback against the Clippers to win 21 of their next 23 overall, including 11 in a row on the road entering the opener of a five-game trek against the Orlando Magic on Wednesday.

Should Los Angeles extend its road winning streak to a dozen games, it would match the 1972-73 team for the second-longest run in franchise history. The club record is 16 straight road wins, set by the 1971-72 Lakers.

Anthony Davis and LeBron James bring their show on the road after the former recorded his first 50-point performance in a Los Angeles uniform and fourth of his eight-year career in Sunday's 142-125 victory over Minnesota.

"It means a lot," the 26-year-old Davis said after becoming the 11th player in team history to score 50 points in a game.

"There's some greats to come through there and to be in the class with guys like that, especially so early in my career, my first year here, it's humbling, and I'm definitely excited to be in that class."

That win came on the heels of Davis' 39-point performance as the Lakers improved to 11-0 away from the Staples Center with a 136-113 victory in Portland on Friday.

Davis was named the NBA Western Conference Player of the Week after averaging 35.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.8 steals during the Lakers' 4-0 stretch. It was his seventh such honor and first since Nov. 4.

James has meshed well with Davis in their first collective season with the Lakers, who have won 14 of their last 15 to reside tied with Milwaukee (21-3) for the best record in the league.

"For me and A.D., we just, it starts with us," the four-time NBA Most Valuable Player said. "If we're on the same page it makes it a lot easier for the rest of the ballclub, and that's both on and off the floor. So we're just trying to lead by example, lead by command, lead by our voices, lead by our play and see where it takes us. It's been pretty good for us so far."

The Magic saw their season-high four-game winning streak halted with a 110-101 setback to the Bucks on Monday, a game that began a difficult stretch for Orlando with Los Angeles and Houston (15-8) on the immediate horizon. The Magic play the latter two foes at home, where they own an 8-4 mark.

"We just have to play a little sharper, tight up on the mistakes," Terrence Ross said of facing the Lakers and Rockets. "Don't turn the ball over. Can't give possessions away. It will be a good test for us."

Ross highlighted his season-high 23-point performance against Milwaukee with four 3-pointers. Evan Fournier matched that total from beyond the arc to finish with a team-best 26 points.

Unfortunately for the Magic, the rest of the club went 2-for-17 from 3-point range on Monday.
